Lockhart, Texas, is conveniently located 25 miles from Austin, 48 miles from San Antonio, and just 15 miles east of San Marcos off Interstate 35. It covers 15.6 square miles and is the county seat of Caldwell County. Lockhart’s 13,487 residents enjoy convenient access to the amenities and attractions of a large city in a welcoming, small-town environment that is free from the hassles of the big city life.

The City is a home rule municipality operating under a council-manager form of government. The City Council is composed of seven members, including the Mayor. Four members are elected by district and two members, as well as the Mayor. The Council hires a professional City Manager to manage the day-to-day operations of the City. The City Manager, Municipal Court Judge, and City Attorney report directly to the City Council. The City has a 4a/4b economic development corporation for which the City Manager serves as President. The City has a budget of $25.8 million and 145 employees.

The City seeks a strong, energetic, and visionary leader with an outgoing personality and highly advanced interpersonal skills to be its next City Manager. The ideal candidate will be an ethical, transparent, disciplined, and steadfastly strategic municipal manager who inspires and motivates others by example. An open-minded individual who can provide creative, outside-the-box ideas and solutions will be successful in this position. The selected candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible municipal supervisory experience, preferably as a City Manager or Assistant City Manager, is required.
