Conveniently located on the northern edge of the Austin Metro Area, Leander (pop. 60,240) is the fastest growing U.S. city with a population over 20,000. The City is known for its quality of life, excellent schools, hometown pride, and one of the lowest crime rates in the state.

The City of Leander is a home rule city and operates under a council-manager form of government. The Leander Assistant City Manager provides day-to-day leadership and managerial oversight to seven key City departments with a $29,051,660 combined operating budget and 141 employees.

The City of Leander’s next Assistant City Manager must be a strong, approachable, highly ethical, steadfastly strategic, visionary but grounded Servant Leader with exceptional planning and growth management skills who can smoothly facilitate Leander’s evolution into a uniquely attractive, livable, and sustainable community. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, urban planning, landscape architecture, engineering, or a related field is required. A master’s degree is strongly preferred, as is AICP certification. Seven to ten years of progressively responsible, full-time city planning and development services experience, including at least five years of experience at a city department head level or higher, is required. Planning and development services experience in high quality, growth-oriented suburban cities is preferred. The City of Leander offers a starting salary range between $130,000 and $160,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
