Description:
Killeen, Texas, is ideally situated along Interstate 14 in Bell County. It is the principal city of the Killeen– Temple–Fort Hood Metropolitan Area and approximately 70 miles from Austin. The City is adjacent to Fort Hood, the largest armored military installation in the nation, and the City’s economy and way of life are closely tied to the military. This vibrant, family-oriented community is home to over 140,000 residents who enjoy quality neighborhoods, a thriving economy, a full range of educational opportunities, and easy access to big city amenities.

Killeen operates under a council-manager form of government. The Mayor is the City’s chief elected officer and presides over the City’s seven-member City Council, which sets all policies. The City is seeking a city management generalist with significant knowledge and understanding of the full spectrum of city operations and services to serve as its new Assistant City Manager. Experience is desired as a city manager in a smaller full-service community or as an assistant city manager in a large community similar to the increasingly diverse multicultural characteristics of Killeen. Experience as a department director where the oversight responsibilities included a variety of operations and services will be seriously considered.

A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a closely related field is required along with at least five years of relevant experience. A master’s degree in public/ business administration or a closely related field is preferred. Credentialed Manager certification through ICMA is a plus.
